Artist Statement
“I believe a painter needs to approach their environment
with childlike curiosity and sensory awareness. Then the
fleeting glimpses and dramatic moments are recorded vividly
in the mind and sketchbook. I go out daily into my local
environment and am entranced by the drama of light and
shadow, the tension of texture, line and form. I bring this back
to my studio as the primary influence for my paintings.”
-Ron Pattern
I work at the Morgan Block Studios in Bellingham, Washington. I paint in a variety of mediums, Watercolor, Egg Tempera, and large paintings and murals with Acrylic. My subject ranges from the temperate rain forest to sunlight glinting off motorcycle chrome to figurative work, I’m just fascinated with it all. Painting is how I make sense of the emotional attachment I have to my environment and experiences of my life. I can’t imagine not painting or drawing what I see and feel.
